Overview

This qualification prepares trainee teachers to teach in a range of contexts. There is a significant practice requirement as this qualificaiton will assess, and provide evidence of, competence when undertaking teaching and/or training responsibilities. It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, including:

• Individuals who are not currently teaching and training but who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification
• Individuals who are currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training) who can meet the practice
• requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification individuals who are currently working as assessors and who wish to achieve a teaching qualification.
• The objective of the qualification is to confirm occupational competence in a teaching role within the workplace.

Modules

Mandatory Units (75 credits):

• Teaching, Learning, and Assessment in Education and Training (20 credits)
• Developing Teaching, Learning, and Assessment in Education and Training (20 credits)
• Theories, Principles, and Models in Education and Training (20 credits)
• Wider Professional Practice and Development in Education and Training (15 credits)

Optional Units (minimum 45 credits):

• Effective Partnership Working in Learning and Teaching (15 credits)
• Equality and Diversity (6 credits)
• Teaching in a Specialist Area (15 credits)
• Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)
• Managing Behaviors in a Learning Environment (6 credits

Entry Requirements

This qualification, suitable for learners aged 19 and above, provides an introductory platform for various trainee teachers, including those not currently in teaching roles, current teachers/trainers, and assessors seeking teaching exposure.
• Learners should be 19 or over to undertake the qualification.
• You will also need to evidence Literacy skills at level 3 and Numeracy at level 2.
• You will also need to have access to 100 hours of teaching practice. Level 4 Certificate holders need to evidence up to 80 hours.
• Potential teacher trainees wishing to take any of the specialist optional units will need to evidence Level 3 personal skills in English or mathematics as appropriate. The entry criteria and how they can be evidenced can be found in ‘Criteria for entry to mathematics (numeracy) and English (literacy and ESOL) teacher training in the lifelong learning sector (LLUK, June 2007, amended 2010).
• 8 teaching observations will be required to be done for the release of certification. The observations will be carried out by a qualified teacher or a colleague who has level 5 diploma in education and training and or a PCGE or Bachelors in Education degree.

Progressions

Progression opportunities Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to: Bachelors of Education or Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Education. Learners can also apply to the Society of Education and Training or Education and Training Foundation (ETF) to get a qualified teacher status (QTS)

The Diploma is issued by the NCFE - Awarding Organisation. UK Versity Online Limited (Number 8465520) is an accredited and approved delivery Centre for a number of NCFE qualifications.
