Overview
A Level 3 occupational-entry route into adult care for people building towards a senior support role. It covers the full range of Level 3 practice, from promoting communication, person-centred working and equality to safeguarding, mental capacity, health and safety and infection control, with optional specialist units in dementia, end-of-life care, autism, positive behaviour support and medication. It gives new and developing carers a strong professional grounding.
Modules
Mandatory units (all required to achieve the qualification):
• Promote communication in care settings
• Handling information in adult care
• Promote own professional development
• Person-centred practice, choice and independence
• Understand how to promote personal wellbeing
• Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights
• Promote health, safety and wellbeing in care settings
• Support the health and wellbeing of individuals
• Scope and responsibilities of an adult care worker
• Understand duty of care
• Safeguarding and protection in care settings
• Understand mental capacity and restrictive practices
• Maintain infection prevention and control
Optional units: you also complete a minimum of 19 credits from a bank of optional units, selected with your Course Coordinator to suit your role and goals. Popular optional units include:
• Support individuals with dementia
• End-of-life care
• Support autistic individuals
• Positive behaviour support
• Administer medication and monitor effects
Entry Requirements
• Aged 18 or over
• Working or volunteering in an adult care role
• Reasonable standard of English
• Internet access for online study
Progressions
On successful completion you can progress to:
• NCFE CACHE Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care
• Senior care worker or care coordinator
• Lead adult care worker roles
• Further specialist CPD
