Overview
This qualification provides learners with the underpinning knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. It covers children and young people's development, safeguarding their welfare, health and safety in the learning environment, and how schools and colleges operate as organisations. The Award is the entry-level qualification in the NCFE CACHE Supporting Teaching and Learning suite. It nests into the Level 3 Certificate and the Level 3 Diploma, so learners can top up to higher qualifications within the same suite without repeating units already covered.
Who is it suitable for?
This Award is designed for learners who are not yet working in a Level 3 school or college role but are capable of studying at this level. It is also suitable as initial training for anyone planning to work as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Special Needs Assistant.

Mandatory Units
• Schools and colleges as organisations (T/616/5878)
• Support health and safety in a learning environment (A/616/5879)
• Understand how to safeguard children and young people (M/616/5880)
• Understand how children and young people develop (A/616/5882)
Assessment
This qualification is internally assessed. Learners are assessed through a range of methods including written assignments, reflective accounts, professional discussions and work-based evidence drawn from real practice in a school or college setting.
Entry Requirements
• Must be 16 or over
• Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths (or equivalent international qualifications) accepted
• Applicants without the required GCSEs can study Level 3 with UK Versity subject to meeting entry requirements

Progressions
The Level 3 Award nests into the Level 3 Certificate and the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning. Learners can top up from the Award to the Certificate, or from the Certificate to the Diploma, without repeating units already covered.
