Overview
This qualification gives the current and future health and social care workforce the knowledge needed to recognise stroke, respond effectively, and support people affected by it. It supports the goals of the National Stroke Strategy for England and contributes towards the Stroke Specific Education Framework. You will develop knowledge of the different types of stroke, how to identify the signs and symptoms and their effects, and how to respond in an emergency stroke incident.
Who is it suitable for?
This Award is designed for a wide range of workers and prospective workers within the health and social care sector, including care assistants, support workers, nursing assistants, paramedical staff, and anyone preparing to enter the sector. It is also valuable for family carers and volunteers who support people at risk of stroke.
Modules
Mandatory Unit
One mandatory unit, 3 credits total.
• Stroke Awareness (Unit 01)
Assessment
The qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured. Learners build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating achievement of all learning outcomes across the unit. Methods include written assignments, reflective accounts, and case studies drawn from real or simulated practice. There are no exams.
Entry Requirements
• Must be 16 or over
• No prior qualifications required
• A Level 1 qualification can be helpful but is not essential
• Applicants without GCSEs can study this qualification with UK Versity subject to meeting entry requirements

On completion of this Award, learners typically progress to:
• Level 3 Certificate in Stroke Care Management
• Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
• Level 2 Certificate in Working in the Health Sector
• Entry-level employment as a care assistant or health support worker
• Further training in specialist stroke care, neuro-rehabilitation, or adult social care
The objectives of this qualification are to prepare learners for further training and to support a role in the workplace.
