Overview

Radiography plays a central role in modern healthcare. It’s used every day to identify issues in the body, from bone injuries to problems with internal organs. Because these images guide clinical decisions, the profession relies on people who are properly trained and confident in both the science and the practical techniques involved.
If you’re aiming for a career in this field, an Access to Higher Education Diploma (Radiography) is a solid starting point. The course introduces you to key scientific concepts, including cell structure, atomic theory, bonding, waves, ECGs and core radiography principles. You’ll also look at how radioactivity is used in medicine and build an understanding of professionalism and effective teamwork within clinical settings.
Alongside the subject knowledge, the course strengthens your study skills so you’re prepared for the demands of a radiography degree. The Access to HE Diploma is recognised as equivalent to three A Levels and is widely accepted by universities as an alternative route into higher education. It’s still important to check entry requirements with your chosen university before applying.
Completing this diploma gives you a strong foundation and a clear pathway into further study, opening the door to a career where your skills will make a genuine difference in healthcare.

Modules

During the course, you’ll study a range of science-based modules, including:
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics
The Diploma structure includes:
• 24 Graded Credits in Biology
• 15 Graded Credits in Chemistry
• 9 Graded Credits in Physics
• 12 Ungraded Credits (for skills-based and study preparation units)
The course is validated by Ascentis and fully recognised by QAA. It’s delivered over one academic year (32–36 weeks) and designed to prepare you for university-level study in medicine and related health sciences.
We also welcome applications from individuals with relevant health or social care experience, including those who have worked in care settings or supported family members with disabilities or long-term health needs.
