Overview
This is the updated 2026 version of the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (610/7192/4). It started on 1 April 2026 and replaces the previous version (610/0498/4), which closed to new learners on 31 July 2026.
The qualification gives you the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as a lead adult care worker in a range of care settings. Its content lines up with the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the Lead Adult Care Worker occupational standard, and it meets Skills for Care's qualification criteria.
You complete 15 mandatory units covering communication, handling information, your own development and wellbeing, person-centred practice, choice and independence, equality and human rights, health and safety, infection prevention and control, duty of care, safeguarding, and mental capacity. You then choose optional units that fit your job role, from four areas: aspects of support, specialisms (such as dementia, autism, end-of-life care and trauma informed practice), clinical skills or healthcare tasks, and leadership and management.
You study online with tutor support, and you are assessed through a portfolio of evidence built from your real work in an adult care setting. There are no exams.

• Health and safety (topics) (Y/651/9999), 3 credits
• Infection prevention and control (R/652/0000), 2 credits
• Ways of working in adult care (T/652/0001), 2 credits
• Duty of care (Y/652/0002), 2 credits
• Safeguarding in care settings (A/652/0003), 3 credits
• Mental capacity and restrictive practices (D/652/0004), 2 credits
Optional units (minimum 19 credits): you choose a minimum of 19 credits from over 90 optional units, selected with your Course Coordinator to suit your role and goals. The optional units are grouped into four areas: aspects of support, specialisms, clinical skills or healthcare tasks, and leadership and management skills. Popular optional units include:

• End-of-life care (H/652/0060), 7 credits
• Support autistic individuals (K/652/0053), 4 credits
• Understanding neurodiversity (L/652/0063), 3 credits
• Trauma informed practice (A/652/0059), 4 credits
• Implement positive behaviour support (A/652/0021), 6 credits
• Promote mental wellbeing and mental health (M/652/0064), 3 credits
• Administer medication to individuals and monitor the effects (A/651/9971), 5 credits
• Undertake physiological measurements (D/651/9954), 3 credits
• Supervision skills and developing and supporting others (L/651/9986), 4 credits
• Digital skills in a care setting (R/651/9988), 3 credits
Rules of combination: 58 credits in total, made up of 39 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 19 credits from the optional units. At least 35 credits must be at Level 3 or above. Some units cannot be taken together, for example End-of-life care (H/652/0060) and Support individuals at the end of life (T/651/9951).
Entry Requirements
• Aged 16 or over
• Working, volunteering or on a practical placement in an adult care setting in England. You need this to complete the assessment, as your evidence comes from your real work
• No specific prior qualifications are needed, but a Level 2 qualification in a related subject, such as health and social care, is helpful
• Internet access for online study

On successful completion you can progress to:
• NCFE CACHE Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care
• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care
• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England)
• Higher education
• Job roles such as lead adult care worker, senior care support worker or lead personal assistant
Certification
On successful completion you receive the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (610/7192/4) certificate, issued by NCFE CACHE, the Awarding Organisation. The qualification is graded Achieved / Not yet achieved. If you complete at least one whole unit but not the full qualification, a unit certificate can be requested. UK Versity Online Limited (Number 8465520) is an accredited and approved delivery centre for NCFE qualifications.
